All Repeat Prescriptions Take 3 Working Days to Produce
Because of the risk of errors, we cannot take requests over the telephone. You can give us a written request by:
- Handing it in at the surgery
- Posting it to us
- Ordering online via the link at the top of this page (to login you will need a user name and password which can be obtained from reception by coming into the surgery with some ID).
Electronic Prescription Service
The surgery now offers an Electronic Prescription Service: To use this service you must still request your prescription in the usual way (as above) but instead of us producing a paper based prescription we can send details of your medication directly to a pharmacy of your choice. To use this service you must contact the pharmacy of your choice and register with them. Paper based Repeat Prescriptions can still be collected from reception as usual, if you prefer.
In line with Department of Health guidelines this practice will only dispense two months’ worth of medication at a time.
If you have regular medication that you are not asking for in this repeat prescription request, please check that none of it is likely to need replacing before your other medication needs renewing, if this is likely then please add it to your request so that we can synchronise all your repeat medication and reduce the number of requests that you have to make.
Dispensing Your Prescription
If you live more than 1 mile from a pharmacy, we will dispense your prescription for you (unless you tell us not to) so that you can collect your medication from us in 3 working days. This should save you time and travel compared to the alternatives of collecting your prescription or having it sent to another pharmacy.
We can also send your prescription to you or to local pharmacies:
- Martlesham Pharmacy, Martlesham Tesco, Boots Woodbridge, Boots Ipswich and Kesgrave Pharmacy collect prescriptions from us each day. If you tell us that you want them to dispense your prescription, we will make sure that they receive it 3 working days after your request.
- We can post prescriptions to Boots in Woodbridge if you give us a stamped addressed envelope with your request. We will post the prescription within 3 working days of receiving your request, but you need to allow time for it to reach Boots through the post.
We can post prescriptions to your home if you give us a stamped addressed envelope with your request. We will post the prescription within 3 working days of receiving your request.
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.
Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
As you are probably aware, there is a lot going on in the NHS at the moment, with a great deal of change still to come over the next couple of years. At present all GP surgeries are being asked to make changes to some of the medication that we prescribe.
This may be because the drug is no longer licensed; clinically proven that an alternative is better or carries a much higher risk of medical complications. Therefore you may find that something you have been taking for a while is either being changed to an alternative drug or no longer available on prescription – which would mean you would have to purchase it from your local pharmacy.
We aim to offer the best possible service to our patients with the highest clinical care and would ask that you support us through these difficult and changing times.
If you wish to discuss the matter please feel free to contact Lynne Marsh, Practice Manager.
