Clinics & Services

We provide a full range of general medical services:

Ante Natal & Post-Natal

You can expect and receive fully informed support, advice and treatment throughout the ante-natal and post-natal periods. When a pregnancy is confirmed and you have seen the GP, a referral will be made to the midwife attached to the practice; she in turn will see you and make necessary referrals/appointments at the hospital. You can expect to receive fully informed support, advice and treatment from professionals throughout the ante-natal and post-natal periods.

Child Health Surveillance

All children registered with the practice are offered development checks at the appropriate points in their life, areas of concern are identified and follow-up action taken. We have a designated Health Visitor attached to the surgery for our patients.

Cervical Screening

The practice invites women in the relevant age group to attend for regular cervical screening.
We have systems in place:

  • To ensure inadequate/abnormal smears are followed up.
  • To identify and follow up smear defaulters.
  • For patients to opt for exclusion.
  • To ensure that all women are advised of their results.
  • A recall register to allow re-invitation to occur after 5 years.

The practice offers contraceptive injections and pills, including emergency pills but not coil fitting or implants.

Pre-Conceptual Advice

General practitioners and practice nurses are often the first contact for couples concerned about their fertility. We can offer advice and support that can alleviate anxiety. Our role includes giving general preconception advice, taking a history and starting appropriate tests. We will try to see both partners together, although this may be difficult if they are registered with different practices. However, the couple will be encouraged to approach the problem together and must understand that they will both need investigation. We can also ensure prompt and appropriate referral and advice on local services available in secondary and tertiary care together with local funding policies for investigation and treatment. A normal 10 minute appointment with either the doctor or practice nurse will be given in the first instance. It may be necessary for the patient to return with their partner, if so on this occasion a 20-minute appointment will be given.

Smoking Cessation

This practice supports smokers in stopping by, for example, providing literature and offering appropriate therapy or referral. All of our patients are given advice, information and support to stop smoking if they want to.

Travel Clinic

We are able to provide Yellow Fever vaccination as well as general medical travel advice. You can download leaflets with travel advice from the Travel Vaccination page of this web site.

To avoid Accident & Emergency Department attendance, we offer our patients a minor injuries service for the following conditions:

  • Lacerations capable of closure by simple techniques ie gluing
  • Bruises, grazes and soft tissue injuries
  • Minor dislocations of phalanges
